BANGI, March 10 (Bernama) -- The book 'The Malays' is a comprehensive study of the origins and development of Malay identity, ethnicity and what the people mean by Malay, its author Profesor Anthony Milner said.
Milner, who is also profesor of Asian History at the Australian National University, said he decided to write the book because it was a history of ideas in Malaysia which he found very exciting.
"I wrote a book which is really about what the people mean by Malay. It also explores how is it different being a Malay in Malaysia, in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Southern Thailand?," he told reporters after the launching of the book at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), here today.
Raja Muda Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah launched the book. Also present were his wife Raja Puan Besar Perak Tuanku Zara Salim and UKM Vice Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahabuddin.
The 312-page book has been in the market since October last year and is priced at RM359.80 a copy.
