New leaders emerging from the Umno party elections in March must carry out innovations and transformations in making the party as a champion for all races.
Umno Supreme Council (MT) member Datuk Jamaludin Jarjis said Umno should not only champion the cause of its members and the Malays but also those of the non-Malays.
"Umno must endeavour to fight not only for the Malays but also the non-Malays because Umno acts as the pillar for the Barisan Nasional (BN)," Jamaludin Mohd Jarjis told reporters after opening the delegates meeting of the Rompin Umno division, here today.
Datuk Seri Dr Jamaludin Mohd Jarjis, who is also the Rompin Umno division head, said changes were now taking place in Umno currently when the new generation of leaders were offering themselves to contest the top posts in the party.
However, Jamaludin Jarjis said the innovations must be filled with a new thinking culture so that Umno would receive the support of all races.
"We in the Rompin division will begin to make changes next year, when we have our meeting we will invite representatives from the MCA, MIC to observe because when we want to talk about protecting the Malay interests, we don't want to offend the non-Malays," Jamaluddin Jarjis said.
With this transformation, Datuk Jamaluddin Jarjis said Umno would have a new image and the non-Malays would have a positive perception concerning the party which would be reflected in the next general election.
Meanwhile, Jamaluddin Jarjis called on the top Umno leadership to create a cyber branch to enable the young generation who were travelling away from home to keep tabs on the local political developments.
Asked on the post that he would be contesting in the Umno election in March, Jamaludin Jarjis said he had yet to make a decision.
